Ever heard about "Superman Syndrome"? Yes, the meaning is as interesting as it sounds! Some men (who think they are invincible or unstoppable) tend to not look after their oral or systematic health. No, no! We aren't uttering a word around male ego :D

What is superman syndrome?

It is a syndrome found in males where he receives an extra Y chromosome as genetic makeup, making a total of 47 chromosomes instead of the usual 46. A man's oral health with Superman syndrome is usually seen with:

  • Multiple over-retained deciduous, unerupted permanent teeth
  • Increased incidence of carious lesions

Why it is called Superman Syndrome?

According to the survey, these conditions may be attributed to decreased oral hygiene maintenance. Even though, this is a common syndrome, men rather than admitting their problem, tend to avoid the situation along with the warning signs. It may be because they think that their bodies will heal on their own.

If we go by survey, men as compared to women are lagging behind when it comes to practicing good dental hygiene. And then of course they regret it later. But, here we are to make it loud and clear that it's never too late. Here's to all the men with "superman syndrome" - YOU CAN STILL MAKE A CHANGE!

Having said that, here are a few tips that can help you with a healthy smile and beyond for years -

Take it easy during booze - They say "everything in moderation" is not bad. Guess what? They are right! You just need to take it easy during your alcohol parties. Alcohols are acidic in nature that can even lead to dental erosion which can also give birth to increased sensitivity. The downfalls of consuming too much liquor go on but one of them which can't be ignored is the risk of catching mouth cancer.

Your mouth isn't a tool - Stop using it for opening things. A little effort can make you find the proper tool or opener. Your teeth anyway have the job of chewing food. Stop being a "lazy lad Saiyan" and help your enamel to stay strong. Don't use your teeth as tools, it's not at all "manly".

Check with your dentist regularly

Seeing your dentist on a regular basis will help you rule out any dental issues present and keep your oral health in good condition. Regular check-ups will aid your dentist in evaluating problems beforehand and will help improve your oral hygiene for the short and long term.

Chew sugar-free gum

There are many benefits of chewing sugar-free gum like

  • It helps prevent tooth decay
  • Reduce acid levels in your mouth
  • Promotes saliva production
  • Helps replace the lost minerals on your tooth enamel’s surface after a meal or drink.

Perform at-home oral cancer checks

Well, your dentist can evaluate the early signs of oral cancer during your dental check-up. But, in between your visits you must also check on your tongue tor other mouth surfaces for any signs or symptoms of oral cancer. The symptoms include:

-Any lumps or swellings that are painful and found near the mouth, head, or neck area

-Persistent hoarseness

The above symptoms can be of cancer, and if you notice any of them make an appointment with your dentist or doctor as soon as possible.

So men, although it’s fun to imagine yourself as this crime-stopping, invincible superhero, don’t ignore the signs your body is trying to tell you. If the little problems are left untreated for too long, then those little problems will turn into bigger problems leaving you with more than just a toothache.

And we can help you with many more. But instead of mentioning the basic problems, the only stereotype we feel that still exists is about not talking about what they are feeling or going through.

Why hide? Go to your dentist, and talk to them about the challenges you are facing. We know you are strong, but we also know that men too crave care and support. With MyDentalPlan, you can consult India's best dentists at the ease of your fingertips. So now you see, the dentist is just a fingertip away! By the way, did we tell you that we love all the "superman", appreciating every effort and sacrifice that men do for their families? We are proud of you!
